In Not Now, Then When?
I can't tell you how many times I have thought about starting a blog over the last ten years. The thought crossed my mind over 1,000 times, but I never took the next step. All the self-doubt that comes with doing anything new or different was always there.
What would people think? What would they say? I am no expert on anything; who would want to read what I have to say? I have made so many mistakes; what right do I have? You get the picture; I found every excuse to derail what I wanted to do. But, on June 15th, 2019, all of that changed the day my greatest gift came into this world.
It was like everything changed the moment she took her first breath. I now had a little girl to raise in a world that would constantly influence every little detail of her life. Her father and I had to be the guiding light in her life to teach her right from wrong and encourage her to chase her dreams.
That's when it all came together for me. What kind of hypocrite would I be if I told my daughter she could be anything in this world while sitting there, letting my worry over others' potential opinions stop me from doing something I always wanted to do?
That was the turning point for me. I knew I always wanted to do this for myself, but I now had someone to show that I could do anything. You may stumble along the way, you may even have to crawl when you first start, but the point is you take a chance. Nothing in life is guaranteed, but sitting on the sidelines doing nothing is the best way to fail.
The time is now. Stop hitting the snooze button on your life. – Mel Robbins
I see so many people procrastinating, unsure like I was, or just giving excuses for why they are not ready to take action. But the fact is – when will be a good time to take action? Is there ever any perfect time? Are you waiting for some great sign that your time is now, someone to knock on your door and ask if you are ready to do what you always wanted to do?
Life doesn't work that way for anyone. Mark Twain said, "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
No one is going to hand you the life you want or even think you deserve. So my question to those of you in that job you aren't happy with, those thinking of opening that business, exploring a new career or goal, traveling the world, dreaming up a new invention, trying something new no matter what it may be; why not NOW rather than push things to the side and leaving it for a later time?
Your time on this earth is limited; why not spend it chasing your dreams, making a difference, and just making yourself happy. So if you take anything away from this blog post or even this entire blog, please remember the words “If Not Now Then When.”
Now is the time to enjoy life. Now is the time to improve your life. Now, not tomorrow, my friends…
