Be Too Much
To the ladies that go all out, I am talking to you. To the mamas who go overboard, I am talking to you too. I am definitely talking to anyone who has ever told or talked about for being or doing too much.
What I want to say loud and clear for all those in the back is, "Carry On, Ladies, Carry On!"
I am one of these self-identified over the top women. Not so much with myself (that's just a hot mess) but anything that touches my daughter, Christmas holidays, or home decor. I am a competitive and creative person by nature, so when you put those two together, I am trying to create something new and do it better than I have ever done it before. Not to compete with someone else, just to compete with my own imagination.
What those who judge you don't understand is when you have waited until your 40's to have a daughter, you indeed have been waiting half your life for these little moments. Maybe you don't have kids, but you go all out for your family because you didn't have that growing up; whatever the reason, it's yours, and that's all that matters.
For me, it's the moment my daughter's eyes light up because of some minor detail I went over the top on, something that was done just for her enjoyment or something that surprised her and put a smile on her face. Those little moments in time, that's the why. That's all I need to block all the negativity out.
Some people around you will not understand your journey. They don’t need to; it’s not for them. - Paulo Coelho
It has taken me a long time to understand that not everyone will enjoy these moments. Some people may love you, they may love your child and family, yet they still don't celebrate with you. It will hurt, but this is not about you, and nothing you can do or say will change those people. If you hear anything I am saying, hear this! Never begin to shrink yourself because others are uncomfortable or don't want to join in whatever celebration you are having.
Just remember why you're doing it and who you are doing it for. You don't need a fan club to be yourself, and sadly, people will judge you no matter what. So you might as well go all out and make it something truly worth talking about. Keep shining, my friends, keep shining...
